We asked our Twitter followers to share things that irritate them about blogs, blogging, and bloggers:

I don’t like when blogs have no “Follow this Blog” button! So many blogs if I find a good one I need it on my list!

Blog spam. If you want a link, at least pretend you are interested in the content.

My #1 pet peeve is a nonexistent or nonfunctioning RSS capability. I like to aggregate my favorite blogs.

Partial feed (we assume Amy means that when she reads a blog-either at the blog site itself, via RSS feed, or via e-mail digest-only an excerpt from the post is visible, forcing her to click a link to finish reading the post. We hate this, too, Amy!).

Commenters who ask a question and beg you to respond, but don’t leave their name. It’s difficult to forge a relationship with John or Jane Doe.

The “Follow this blog” thing isn’t all that easy. I want to include it on Forensics and Faith, but I have to go through the latest blogger update process first. Can’t go through that because of over 100 “errors” in code, which has apparently changed from older form of blogger. If I update, I’m warned by blogger that I’ll lose data from my template, which is fairly complex. Man. Sometimes computers make things so hard.

I have to add a complaint about blogs that are too busy, too. Ads that take forever to load and lots of embedded videos or animations on the sidebars distract from the content – not to mention take up processor speed. My computer is an elderly Apple iBook that can barely handle busy pages. Townhall.com’s latest design makes my browser seize up (it has a ticker at the top and an ad at the bottom that is constantly changing).

I would prefer for blogs to allow comments… there are a few great blogs that I red that would be better if comments were allowed!

I don’t like business blogs that overwhelm me with ads, either. It makes the page look tacky and too commercial. Even though HeBlogsSheBlogs.com is a business blog, we route the “ad” portion of our blog (aka, our Client list and testimonials - http://heblogssheblogs.com/clients/) to an inside page, so visitors focus on our fresh content first.

Your reminder that not everyone has the latest, greatest computer is a good one.

Allowing comments is critical in any successful blog. The reader interaction and relationships are what make a blog a blog (and not just a static Web site). I get irritated by bloggers who monitor or approve comments before posting them. While I understand why they do this, I am selfish in that if I take the time to comment, I want to see my comment right then and there!

I agree with Laura — white type on a black background makes me want to NOT read the blog, even if it has terrific content.
