I’m a fan of “snuck” and “hung.” Guess I’m a blue jeans kind of person, too. In many cases, including the example that you gave, “sneaked” just doesn’t sound right to me — even if it is correct!

My husband always used to say this pun:

How do you catch a unique rabbit?

Unique up on it.

I often break grammar rules, but usually, I do so intentionally, when using the “correct” word would draw undue attention to it.

In fact, in my editing days, I’d have changed sneaked to snuck in that case.
