“yous guys” … my grandmother used to say that, and she was born and raised in San Francisco! Actually, she didn’t say “guys,” just “yous.” And I have no idea of how to punctuate “yous,” or if it’s even a legal word!

It’s funny how such little, take-it-for-granted slang words can trip us up.

I almost blush when sharing this story. I live in the south and had always seen that word spelled ya’ll. Had a damn yankee point out to me that since it is a conjunction, the correct spelling is y’all. Now, as an intelligent, educated, professional writer, I knew that. But, since I had grown up with it, I had never given the spelling a second thought. And to think, it took someone who routinely says “yous guys” to square me out. (Not sure if “yous” is spelled correctly. Can any of you grammar folk help me with that?)

LOL! Rain can leave you a bit in the fog up there, I know :-). Here’s another thing for you:

How about “All y’all?” This would be the equivalent to addressing a crowd of y’all…

And

“All y’all’s” = Possessive to a group of y’alls

Oh my goodness! I never knew there WAS a possessive plural of “y’all.” Just goes to show ya (y’all?) how language-challenged we are here in the Pacific Northwest. We blame it on the rain!
